Book Titles:

The Hunt Club by Bret Lott

Huger, at fifteen, has learned a lot about life and people working at his blind uncle’s ranch. Every weekend, doctors, lawyers and bankers flock to the ranch to hunt and impress themselves with their wit and wisdom. Things take a radical turn and Huger is feeling like the deer they hunt - scared, in danger and confused.

American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang

Jin Yang is the tormented Chinese American teen in this graphic novel who desperately wants to fit into his mostly white school. Coming of age and feeling prejudice first hand, Jin is a very relatable character. The author cleverly weaves three seemingly separate stories into one.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

North America has evolved into a chaotic state where people in the twelve districts nearly starve to death daily. The Capitol forces them to send 2 children to fight to the death in hopes that their district will earn food and good graces. Does Katniss Everdeen realize she may be signing her death sentence by volunteering to replace her younger sister in the Hunger Games?

ESPERANZA RISING by Pam Munoz Ryan
Esperanza’s life is just about perfect. She loves her life on the family’s ranch. In a blink of an eye, her life is turned up side down and she ends up working in the fields in California as her mother suffers in the hospital.

Monster     by Walter Dean Myers

Steve cannot believe he is facing prison time. He feels like he has stumbled into a movie where he has the starring role. He decides to write a movie detailing this nightmarish trial. For the title he chooses the name the prosecutor called him … Monster.
